A Home Away From Home

We understand that it can be stressful to leave your pet when you go out of town – especially if they are ill, or when they are recovering from a procedure or surgery. At Mamaroneck Veterinary Hospital, we want to help put your mind at ease.

We provide complete general cat & dog boarding services for all of our patients, and medical boarding services for pets with conditions standard pet boarding centers may not be equipped to accommodate.

Pet Boarding: A Typical Day

Dogs

Each morning, the dogs venture outside to our outdoor runs for fresh air before breakfast. While they are outside, their kennels are cleaned, disinfected, and stocked with fresh bedding.

Play groups are organized based on size and temperament. Please let us know if your dog has any behavioral concerns that our staff needs to be aware of to ensure the safety and well-being of your dog, our other guests, as well as that of our staff.

Depending on staff availability, you may request walks for your dog during their stay. Please ask our reception staff for additional details.

Your dog will also have supervision throughout their entire stay with us – both during playtime and while they rest. In the evening, dinner is served, and then we go outside once more before bedtime.

In the warmer months, we offer an outdoor K9 pool for any pups who wish to take a dip to cool down.

Cats

Your cat will be fed according to your specifications and their requirements, to ensure their routine is the same as it is at home.

We provide daily one-on-one interaction with kitties (if they want it!) including play, snuggles, and pets. Litter boxes are checked, cleaned, and disinfected periodically throughout the day.

Additionally, we refresh linens and clean your kitty's room daily. Our cat boarding area is separated from the dog area to ensure your kitty feels relaxed and safe while they stay with us.

Medical Boarding

Your pet will be supervised by our expert veterinarians and nurses, who will administer medications and watch over them closely. Any required medications will be administered to your pet on the same schedule they are used to at home.

For overnight boarding and daycare, animals must be current on all required vaccines to limit the risk of disease both to your pet as well as to our other guests, including:

    • Rabies (1 or 3-year protocol)
    • DA2PP combination for dogs (1 or 3-year protocol)
    • Bordetella (every 6 months) for dogs
    • Canine Influenza vaccine (For initial exposure two doses are given 2 to 4 weeks apart. An annual booster is required.)
    • FVRCP combination for cats (1 or 3-year protocol)

Other vaccines that may be recommended by your veterinarian — such as the Lyme or leptospirosis vaccines — are dependent on your pet’s lifestyle and risks of exposure. They are not required for staying at the Pet Resort but may be appropriate for your pet. Please feel welcome to discuss these vaccines or any other medical concerns or questions you have with our veterinarians on staff.

Please bring your pet’s vaccination history with you when you check-in for daycare.

Dogs and Cats must have fecal parasite exams every six months, as recommended by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention. Also, flea & tick prevention is required for dogs during their stay with us. We can apply and dispense appropriate products from our hospital pharmacy if you need them.

  • Can I schedule veterinary care while my pet is boarding?

Any treatments your pet may need can be done by our veterinarians during their stay here.

Additionally, if you have other concerns you would like addressed by a veterinarian while boarding, just let our receptionist know and they will arrange for the appropriate follow-up by a doctor during your pet’s stay.

  • Is there a limit to the number of pets I can board at a time?

We have a large facility and are able to accommodate several animals at once, provided you give us sufficient notice.

Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to board family members (canine/canine or feline/feline) together.

  • What are your kennel hours?

    Monday - Friday: 8:00am to 7:45pm
    Saturday: 9:00am to 4:00pm
    Sunday:
     7:30am to 8:00pm

  • How should I prepare for my pet's stay?

Each animal is different. To prepare for your pet's stay with us, we'll take the following steps to ensure that we can meet their unique needs.

Step 1: Contact us to get started

Call us to book, and to discuss details about your pet and your boarding needs. A member of our team will be happy to to coordinate your booking.

Please note that, due to the nature of our accommodations, we do not accept unaltered dogs. Pets must be up to date with all vaccinations and free of fleas and ticks to stay at our facility.

Step 2: Book a trial stay

We want to be absolutely sure that we are a good fit for your pet before an extended stay. The trial stay consists of a full day of daycare where we can take the time to assess your pet's temperament and make sure they fit in with the pack.

Step 3: Set your pet up for success

On the day you drop your pet off with us, there are a few steps you can take to help reduce any stress your pet may feel.

Spend some extra time with your pet beforehand, and make sure they get some vigorous exercise so that they are feeling calm. When you arrive at our facility, stay calm, cheerful and confident during the separation.
